While I cannot answer what an NSF check is in Illinois, it could be a felony in Michigan. Have you demanded the money from this attorney? Have you confirmed that he or she is really an attorney? If this person is an attorney, you could always contact the Attorney Grievance Commission but I do not believe they would disbar this person over a bounced check. Your claim, likely, for a suit, could be filed in either Illinois or Michigan but to collect, you would still need to get the judgment entered in Michigan. Therefore, it might be wisest to hire a Michigan attorney to collect on it. Furthermore, there is a double damages statute in this state (in limited circumstances) that may allow you to recover double the value of the check. However, you would need the right attorney to assert the claims. Please feel free to contact me at http://www.woleverinelaw.com
