Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

my friends and i were at wal mart to get pop. we first went into the make up section when they decided to steal a few things of make up. my friend pointed out a mascara that i should get. stupidly i took it. on our way out after we got the pop we were stopped asked to give the things that we stole and to come with them. we said we didnt steal any thing and kept walking to our car. after we got in the car and drove away i handed my friends the make up as they were throwing theres out the window. we got polled over the car was searched but nothing was found. they said they would review the cameras and get back to us. Im only 18, just graduating high school this year. iv never bee in any trouble at all and i dont know what to do or what to say if the cameras show we really stole. im scared and embarrassed that i did such a stupid thing. what do i plead and is there any way i can get out of this with out having something on my recored?

im not sure what area of law this would be unders o i just put criminal law.
