Legal Question in DUI Law in Michigan

became disabled/cannot pay fine

I am currently on probation for a drunk driving conviction. My probation was to end in November of 2002. I have satisfied everything but the fines. I am a disabled veteran and during my probation period my condition became worse, to the point that I can no longer work. My probation officer extended my probation for an extra year to pay my fine. Is there anything that I can do to get off of probation before my fine is paid? I have family that lives out of state and it is bothersome.

Re: became disabled/cannot pay fine

Why wasn't your probation extended up until the fines are paid? Maybe that is really the case. Could be 1 year OR 'til fines are paid. Check and see. If not, talk to your probation officer. Then you may want to appear in front of the Judge to ask for this condition. Or if you want to travel, all you have to do is ask for permission. Good luck.
