dui and moving out of state

my 20 yr old son's license is suspended til july 07 in michigan..he had 2 offenses thus acoor. to their law , if desiring to drive, has to have a device(breathalyzer) attached to ignition..,,.but he wants to move out of state to go to school and need to drive..is that possible?

You'll have to check with the MA licensing bureau to see whether he can have a license. it used to be that the states didn't share this information, but he might also be obligated to report it and/or re-apply for a new license.

Michigan is part of the "Inter-state compact" and will report the DWI to the requesting state. On the other hand, its decisions on Probation will not necessarily be the rules in the new state. You should contact an attorney in the state in which your son wishes to go to school and see if they can both answer your question and lessen the burden.

With that said, a 20 year old, with 2 prior alcohol related offenses should most definitely be in a alcohol program. Driving with an interlock device would make it safer for him and others. Intervention is important before this kid kills himself or someone else.
