Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

At what age can a child decide whether they will go for non-custodial visitation? My 14 year old daughter is becoming increasingly angry about the arrangements - she feels her life is put on hold every other weekend; she is bored and wants to spend time with her friends. I thought if Dad reduced the time period to one night on his weekend instead of two days that the situation might become easier on everyone involved, but he is not willing to try this out. I want my daughter - and her younger sister - to have a relationship with their dad. I do not want the older one to become so rebellious that she loses touch with her responsibilities as a student, as a daughter and/or as an active young adult who will make good decisions.

A child cannot decide on either parenting time or custody until that child reaches 18.

I understand this is a hard situation. You may want to consider speaking with an attorney to discuss if there has been a change of circumstances that warrants a change of parenting time or custody.

Please do not hesitate to contact a family law attorney.
