Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

meritorious defence

My ex is claiming that he was in Florida when the first settlement conference was held and that was why he missed it. A subsequent date was also missed. According to him, he thought that we had come to an agreement and didn't think he had to show up. Would any court let this go as a meritorious defense? He was the plaintiff, knew the divorce was pending, missed 2 settlement conferences and now is disputing the judgment. In reading his affidavit, there are many untruths. Should I file some type of answer or just appear at the court date? Will I get to have my say in court to dispute some of the issues on the petition to set aside the judgment? I would just like to be prepared.
