my wife took my kids 5oo miles away from me to her mothers house without me knowing and the same day i received divorce papers in the mail and now i cant see my kids is this legal

Legal, yes. Ethical is another matter. You will need to contest things in the divorce court.

Your attorney should be able to get a court order to return the kids.
