Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

Gifts in small claims

I gave my ex girlfriend some pets as gifts. They were very expensive pets one costing over a grand. When we broke up she said she would pay me back for the animals. Since that time she has told me that she will NOT pay me back for the animals as they were gifts. Can I take her to small claims court and try to get my money or am I out of luck?

Re: Gifts in small claims

You're out of luck. They were gifts. Her promise to pay was not relied upon by you so it is meaningless. William S. Stern
