Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

I was in a relationship with someone and we leased an apartment together. My name was on the lease with him listed as an occupant. The relationship became abusive and he moved out. I had no choice but to move back home with my mom because of being unable to afford the rent alone. I have now received a bill from the apartment complex for $2700.00. Can I take my former roommate to small claims court for part of this balance?

You can sue anyone for anything. It does not mean you will be successful. You would have the burden of showing that your agreement was that he split the rent. If he denies it, you will then have to come forward with some evidence t prove your case. Simply because he lived there will not be enough.
