A person is not a legal adult until they are 18, or become legally emancipated from their parents or legal guardians. If the parents or legal guardian of the child object to the child moving out of their home and/or into the home of someone else, the parents could report the child as a runaway, and the child's roommate could be charge with harboring a runaway. If the child does not want to return to the home, such as for reasons of abuse, then the child would be placed in foster care or in a juvenile center until he/she is 18. Unless the child has evidence of abuse, the police and Child Protective Services and DHS will look at the case as a defiant child not wanting to comply with his parents' rules and just wanting to live with a friend.

Also, anyone under 18 cannot enter into any kind of contracts, written or verbal, so if you're living with someone and have an agreement to pay certain bills, that contract is invalid and not enforceable.
