Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan

Getting boyfriend to leave house.

I bought a house 2 years ago and have been living in it with my boyfriend. We have since broken up and he refuses to leave. What are my options for getting him out legally? His name is on nothing while my name is the only one on the mortgage. What rights does he have?

Re: Getting boyfriend to leave house.

You sound like me.

Anyways, you need to provide him with a Notice to Quit, which is a preprinted court form. It's just like how you would proceed with any other tenant.

I can email the form(s) to you if you send me an email to [email protected]. Technically you should probably give him 30 days notice, unless there are other circumstances going on (abuse, etc) which make it important for him to be out sooner.

Good luck.
