Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan

Rental Question

I have just moved into an apartment about 3 months ago. I have only spoken to and been in contact with one of the two partners. I have just been informed by him that the home has been forclosed on. He has told me that he is trying to buy it from the bank. And wants me to continue renting it from him. I'm not sure if I am still obligated to continue paying him the rent or if I should wait to see if he buys it from the bank. And put the rent money into a seperate account & hold on to it for now. I don't think I should be living here for free but I also dont think he should have the money either if it's not his property anymore?

Re: Rental Question

You owe the money until the bank tells you they are the owner (at least 6 months). If you stop paying, he can legally evict you. www.kliszlaw.com Tim Klisz
