Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan

I signed a 12 month apartment lease, as did another person who I previously did not know. He ended up not moving in, even though he had signed the lease, paid me 1/2 the deposit and the application fee. I want to take legal action against him as he handled this very poorly, only offering to make the first month's payment. I offered to let him off for 3 months rent but if he doesn't accept that, I want to take him to court and have his wages garnished. He is in another state working but I know the address of his parents and am sure I could get his social security number from the lease application if it came up in court. Its only about $5000 at stake here, but I'd gladly pay the legal expenses, and have the resources to do so, to make him fight it. Please let me know how likely I would be to win the full amount, get his wages garnished and also chances of winning your legal fees. Please send me quotes if you'd like. Thanks!

First, because he is in another state, you might want to sue there, and therefore should post your question in that state. Getting attorney fees ordered is highly unlikely without an agreement which says so. Tim Klisz
