Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan

Written notice to terminate lease

The lease for my apartment ends at this month. However, I was just notified by my landlord that I needed to give 60 days written notice of intent to vacate, and so I will need to pay an additional month's rent, as per my lease agreement. I maintain that while I did not provide written notice, I have told them several times that I will be leaving at the expiration of the contract.

I believe their request is unenforceable under both the Truth in Renting Act and the Michigan Consumer Act. Is this correct, or do I really need to pay the extra month's rent - even though I will be leaving the apartment at the expiration of the lease?

Re: Written notice to terminate lease

If the lease says written notice is required, then written notice is required and the TIRA and MCPA will likely not help you.
