Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan

common law marriage

a couple has been together for 9 years. one of the partners died and his family is trying to take property out of the house anyway from the other partner. Is this legal? How can she stop his relatives from coming in the house and trying to take things that they both accumalated over the years? He had no will, but they shared a child in common.

In Michigan, there is no such thing as a common law marriage. However, if he had a child and no will, the child should inherit everything under Michigan law.
