Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Minnesota

satisfying a judgement

I just received notice that a judgement was filed against me by the district court of the county I live in. This is for an amount of about $5,000.00 for a credit card bill. I want to get this cleared up as quickly as possible, but would like to have some information before I call. Can you tell me how serious this is, in general? And if the department will be willing to work with me, such as allow me to make payment arrangements? Any information you can provide would be helpful. After I have paid the money that is owed, can this be discharged from my record? I am assuming something will show for 7 years on my credit report, but am not sure where else this will show and for how long.

I am guessing this debt may be from Direct Merchants. They can be pretty nasty and would likely try to garnish your bank accounts. You might have some limited success by calling the law firm (Messerli & Kramer?????) and trying to work out some payment arrangements.
