Common Law Marriage

My monther has been with her boyfriend for 12.5 yrs. They live in Minneasota where common law marriages are not noticed. About 1 month ago he told my mom he has a girlfriend. My mom and her boyfreind own a house and the contents within the residents. Both of their names are on the loan of the house and it is not payed off yet. I was woundering what justice is there fo my mother? So she's not left with nothing to her name. She gave up two jobs and sold our house in North Dakota to be with him.

Re: Common Law Marriage

While Minnesota does not recognize common law marriage, it does recognize in some cases contracts between co-habitants. IF she can prove there was an agreement that she would get half of the home, she might come out with something. She should also be sure to make a list of the personal items in the home for which she paid for.
