Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

I am from India and resident of Richfield, Minnesota. (Immigration Status: Work Visa and final stages of GC processing).

Married in Delhi, India in 2006 and my wife joined me in US after 1year 2months (in 2007). Since 2008 Dec we are stating in MN (moved between different cities on jobs)

1) I am planning for divorce. As I am a consultant, I may need to move other state shortly. Can I file for divorce in MN even after moving to other state in US? Or I have to wait to get resident status of that state?

2) Will divorce in US is valid in India (in both cases Contested and Uncontested)?

3) Is there any organization to help my spouse after divorce to overcome divorce?

Your inputs, highly appreciated.

To file for divorce in Minnesota one party must be a resident of the state for 180 days or domiciled in the state.

Whether you can file for divorce in another state after you move there will be governed by the dissolution laws of that state.

In terms of future enforceability, your local attorney should consult with an attorney in India to determine options for enforceability in India.

There are many resources to assist your spouse in Minnesota. One such organization is Tubman. More information about this organization is available at www.tubman.org.
