Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

Irresponsible Spouse

I have been married since 1994.My spouse gets 100% VA disability and brings in about $40,000 per year tax free. In 1996, he developed a gambling and drug and sex addiction. I lost my job and all the debt surfaced (he was hiding the bills from me) so we had a debt of $50,000. We refinanced that onto the house.

Since then, I found out he gave me a seroius venereal disease. He has moved out of the house-and has been paying me $1,000 per month to take care of the debt he incurred. He now wants a divorce and does not want me to pay for anything. The VA won't allot any of his

disability to me after we divorce. I suffer with the disease he gave me, and work 2 jobs. i will lose my home if this goes his way. I can not afford an attorney. Do I have any recourse?

You may have recourse. Please review the article on our web site entitled "Can I Sue my Spouse"

If your spopuse was aware that he had a venereal disease and put you at risk without telling you, yopu may sue him for civil damages or seek a disproproportionate property settlement. You may also claim that you spouse has dissipated assets with gambling etc.. Please contact us at 952.831.5000
