Legal Question in Employment Law in Minnesota

Time off for sick children

My son broke his arm at school and could not atttend school for three days until permanant cast was placed on. When I informed my employer I would need 1 of the three days off due to lack of child care and medical apponintment for cast to be put on my employer wanted to know who was watching my child the days I could work and why they couldn't watch him the third day and wanted to know why I needed an entire day off. I do not have an excessive absentee record and have 2 weeks of vacation/sick time avail. Am I required to explain why I need the time off other than child is not abale to go to school and has a medical appt for broken arm?? Felt I was put in a very uncomfortable defensive position, it felt alot like I was being harrased bt my supervisor.

Re: Time off for sick children

Your arrangements are controlled by your employment contract. Are you in a union? DO you have an employee handbook? Those items need to be addressed to get a complete picture of your rights.
