Legal Question in Employment Law in Minnesota

Can they do this???

I work in retail. The home office fired my manager in August. We had little to no staff. We now have a new manager, myself and other employees are working 40+ hours a week to service our costumers and not all of us are full time. They are desprite to find people to work here. I have been there for a little over 2 years, making 7.60 p/h another employee almost 4 years making 8.00 p/h and one other 1.5 years and 7.00 p/h. They have been hiring people with no expiriance at 7.50-9.00 p/h and people with at least 2 years expiriance at 9.25-11.00 per hour. We have all asked for raises. They are giving the person at 8.00 a .50 cent raise and myself a .50 cent raise, (the manager told me it would be a dollar, then he got off the phone with the H.O. and they said that was too much!). They are not giving the person at 7.00 a raise, but that is a whole other issue. They told us a month ago we would get raises and we still have not recieved them. The manager sent in the paper work right away and the Home Office is dragging their feet. It is frusterating to be training people in who are making the same or close to the same amount of money as me and know absolutly nothing about what we do. Can they legally be doing this??

Unless you are working under a written contract or pursuant to a Union agreement, an Employer and an employee can agree to any dollar amount

they want. So, yes, they can do it so long as you are willing to work

for those wages.
