Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Minnesota

I recently found out I might have an illegitimate son who is around 19 years old. I have never met the said party and I did not know he existed until about a year ago. My question is, does he have any claim to my assets while I am alive, or my estate, upon my passing?

Also, I do not have a will drawn up as of yet. Would he be able to get anything if he was not in the will?

I have a wife and fourteen year-old son I plan on leaving everything to.

Thanks for any advice you may have.

No, he would not have claim to your assets while you are alive.

Paternity can be established through the courts. I personally do not have any experience with this after the child has reached the age of majority, but I assume the procedures are the same as if the child was a minor. This also may be available after death.

A properly drafted will can omit any known or unknown child.
