Name Change

I have sole custody of my child, my ex has limited visitation rights. My ex hasn't seen my son for 7 years and I want to change my son's last name to my maiden name. My son was born in Canada, but we live in the US now. My ex still lives in Canada(I think) but I can't be sure because he's had no contact with us for 7 years. Is it possible for me to change my son's last name?

Yes, terminate his parental rights due to dissertion, then file to change his name.
