Legal Question in Family Law in Mississippi

Interpertation of retainer fee .

I was charged a retainer fee. I have received a bill for the retainer fee plus a bill for all time used. Do I have any recourse? Retainer fee $2,500 Time used

$1034.41 total 3530.41 It is my understanding after contacting several attorneys that the rule in mississippi is that you are charged the retainer and the time is deducted. You are charged any overage.

Did you sign a contract for legal services? I would imagine that you did. You need to read that contract as it will explain how the retainer fee is to be used. If you still have questions, you should contact your attorney for an explanation.

Re: Interpertation of retainer fee .

Are you sure that the time used was not a total of $3,530.41 and that your $2,500.00 retainer wasn't deducted, thereby leaving you owing $1,034.41? If the total time was only $1,034.41 and the remaining $$ has not been refunded, send a certified letter giving the attorney a deadline to refund the difference. If they don't meet the deadline, contact the Mississippi Bar and file a Bar complaint.
