Legal Question in Business Law in Missouri

Possible credit card fraud

Received a call from a bill collector regarding a balance of $8000.00 for a credit card in my wife's name. It was her name, address, social security number, date of birth, etc. She has no recollection of ever applying for this card. I am the one that pays the bills. I do not know of this card either. I told them I think this may be fraud. I asked for copies of every transaction to be sent to me. Am I liable for her debt on this? Or should I just let them sue her. She is not employed. If I need an attorney then please recommend one in St. Charles, MO. Thanks.

Re: Possible credit card fraud

In Missouri the creditor must be able to show actual use of the card in order to collect legally. You did the right thing in asking for the proof. If they do elect to file suit, I could represent you (or her). I have sucessfully handled many such cases. Please feel free to call for a free consultation at 314-727-2822. Thank you.
