Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

Liable for fiance's child support

My fiance' regularly pays child support. Since my income is more than his, we want to protect my income from any future increases in support payments, should his ex seek more. What are our options?

Re: Liable for fiance's child support

If your fiancee is represented by legal counsel, he should consult with his attorney for an explanation of the current law governing child support. While your separate income is not formally included in the calculation of his child support obligation, any increase in his child support payments will have an adverse effect on the disposable income you two will have together. You may find legal methods of protecting yourselves through study of the statute and controlling case law. An attorney may provide you with an opinion letter after conducting adequate legal research. The attorney would necessarily need to be paid for his time regardless of the outcome. You may call me for a free telephone consultation if you desire.(314-727-2822)
