When living together unmarried how long before its considered legal

Unmarried and living together in Missouri how long before it becomes legal. Ny brothers girlfriend wants him to move in with him they are both in their 50's and my brother wants to make sure that if something happens to him his children with get his estate.

Missouri does not recognize common law marriages. Your brother's girlfriend will only inherit from him if your brother provides for it in his will. However, if your brother places property into both of their names, she will immediately become a part owner in that property and that ownership will continue after your brother's death. Please encourage your brother to make a will, so he can assure that his estate goes to those chosen by him; and to consult an attorney prior to placing any property, especially real estate, in joint names with his companion.
