Re: Marriage name changing - husband/wife combine names

I assume you just got married and your wife wants to assume your name. If she wants to take your name, she can simply start using the name as soon as you are married. To change some of her identification papers -- her Social Security card, for example -- she'll need a certified copy of your marriage certificate, which you should receive within a few weeks after the marriage ceremony. She can then file a name change, based on marriage, with the Social Security Office. Once her social security card is changed, she can get her new driver's license, passport, etc... Good luck. If you have trouble, just call your local Social Security office and they'll walk you through it. The marriage certificate and new driver's license should be sufficient to change her name on credit cards, bank accounts and the like -- just check with each entity and ask them what they require. They deal with this often and can tell you what you need to do. Good luck.
