Legal Question in Employment Law in Missouri

Reference

My wife, who works in a bank, recently started looking for a different job. She is looking because she needs full time and her current employer only has a part time position for her. She told her manager this was the case and the manager seemed okay with it, even offering to give a reference if needed. My wife interviewed at another bank that was hiring. Her current manager found out and called the manager at the other bank, and talked to her about my wife's job performance.

Is this legal, or did the current manager release protected information of some kind?

Re: Reference

Based upon the facts you described, it appears that you wife may have a cause of action against her current employer. I suggest that she consult directly with an Labor or employment attorney in her area.

Good Luck
