Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Missouri

My sister in law passed away this weekend. She had no life insurance.Recently they lived in a housing complex that was stripped of it's government funding.Everyone who was low income was to recieve a check to help offset the cost of moving. My brother her signifcant others name was on the lease .My sister in law got ill quickly and when the social worker came to do the paper work to give my brother power of attorney she was too confused to make decisions. She then passed away. The check to offset the moving is waiting to be picked up and is in her name. Can this check be turned over to the funeral home to help offset expenses?

Unfortunately, your Sister-in-law is no longer available to endorse the check. Your brother can get that power through the probate court. He needs to meet with a probate attorney or the clerks of the probate court as soon as possible. Nost funeral homesw are accustomed to waiting for probate courts to release funds.

Good luck
