Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Nebraska

False Reporting

Is there anything I could do regarding False Reporting. I wasn't getting monthly statements so I went in to see why not and they said I had filed bankruptcy. This was reported to credit agency and I have never filed bankruptcy, it was my uncle.

Re: False Reporting

You have the right to challenge the credit agencies to substantiate the report that you had filed bankruptcy.

Get your credit report, then send certified letters to all agencies that have you as bankrupt. They definitely have an obligation to clear up your record so that it fairly reflects your credit history.

Go into your bank and speak to a manager who can look over your paperwork and get clearance to re-instate your account.

Re: False Reporting

This is not directly a civil rights issue, unless you have evidence that the reporting was motivated by discrimination against you because of your race, creed, national origin, gender or disability.

You have rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act and other consumer protection statutes, and I would suggest you try your question in that category.
