Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Nevada

Debit collection

I received a collection letter last month stating I owed a bill from a hospital visit in Dec 1997. I have no records to verify this. I requested documentation from the collection agency and what they sent was a printout showing an original balance, less some deductions, a balance to which they have added interest.

Am I liable for this? I have not received any notification of this prior to last month.

Re: Debit collection

If it was from 1997 and you made no payments since then, the debt should be uncollectable because of the statute of limitations. You can always voluntarily pay, but there is no legal way to compel you.

You should write the debt collector and request that they not contact you again and not report it on your credit report as it is a stale debt. You need to check your credit report to ensure that it is not on there. If it is you need to dispute it because it is stale.
