Bosses Snooping

I am having a problem with my boss snooping on my e-mails. Well that was fine, but wasn't aware of it. And didnt know that my Instant Messages could even be snooped on. Well I said something pretty personal on there yesterday, and my boss came out laughing so I know now she can read my Instant Messages, is this legal??

My understanding is that it is allowable for your boss to be monitoring your work computer. If your employer owns the computer then they have a right to see what is on it. Generally, it is better for an employer to have an internet/e-mail company policy that informs the employee of the possibility of the employer monitoring your computer, but it is not necessary.
