Need help -10 days before case is dismissed

My friend's attorney canceled the court date 2 weeks before they were to begin trial, then withdrew as their attorney. They now have 10 days left before the suit is dismissed. My friend was hurt after a handrail broke as he was crossing a bridge at his apartment complex. He has had serveral surgeries and can no longer work. He is Permantly disabled. Can they represent their self until the can find a new attorney. No one in Las Vegas will take the case at such a short notice.

Yes they can represent themselves, and they should ask for a trial continuance. I would need additional information on how the incident occured, why the attorney withdrew, etc.
