Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New Hampshire

Lawsuit over $100.00?

A friend stayed with me when she was homeless, I charged her nothing. She gave me $100 one time because it was all she could afford, it was agreed I did not have to pay her back. She now is having someone else try to collect it for her and they are threatening with court, personally I thought civil courts wouldn't deal with anything this petty, is this true? Or should I worry about the $100 because now I am a little down and out and can't afford it.

Small claims court (your local district court) does handle claims this small. However, most reasonable people realize how much time and effort gets wasted trying something this small. If you are sued, you can probably defend yourself. The procedure is rather informal and you will have a chance to explain your view to the judge.
