Legal Question in Business Law in New Jersey

moving DBA to a different state

I just started a home-based business (a DBA /sole proprietership) in 2006, registered in NJ. I am moving to SC next month, and want to legally move my business as well. How do I ''inform'' the state of NJ so I can stop filing quarterly taxes there?

You don't need to do anything except register the name of your business in SC according to the procedures there. Stop paying estimated taxes to NJ if you will not owe taxes.

You do not have to notify anyone in NJ that your business has moved and there are no procedures for undoing a proprietor's name registration. However, if you want to avoid the risk of being sued in New Jersey based on doing business here, either change the name when you move to SC or be certain that you stop using your NJ address as the business address for any purpose.
