Was arrest appropriate

My 17 yr old son was arrested last night,(put in handcuffs, brought to police station) for throwing an egg at the back of a driving car he thought was a friend's. A stupid prank, but worthy of arrest? Answer would be greatly appreciated

The police thought a crime had ben committed, and have a lot of leeway in arrest.. Even though it was a prank to your son, certainly the cops had a number of things they could have charged him with, so yes, the arrest was probably valid.
