Legal Question in Technology Law in New Jersey

Online Photo Posting

I posted photos from my Birthday Party online. Someone who had no photo taken told me it was ILLEGAL to post any photos of anyone if I didn't get express permission. Is this true? What are the rules for posting people's photos online if no name/id is given?

Re: Online Photo Posting

Post away. Unless your subjects are people who make their living by selling their public image, you should be safe. Newspaper routinely ask for permission to use photos of people who are not public figures to avoid any problems related to their profit-making nature. That is precautionary and most of the time it is unnecessary. There might also be a privacy issue if you were posting very personal photos. It doesn't sound as if you fit into any of those categories. If you have any lingering doubts or if any of the subjects complains, consult your lawyer for a specific opinion.
