Legal Question in Consumer Law in New Jersey

Can I find out when a car was last inspected?

(Fake inspection sticker) Yes, I have to pay the fine, b/c I was in possession of it. But I'm going to take the guy to court. I just bought it in Aug 2009, and if he took it to inspection in July and it failed, then he's the one who put the sticker on it and sold it to me. BTW, it cost more to fix the car than I paid for it. Total loss: $1700 plus the fine, which can be $500.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I don't think that the State records inspections except through the stickers. Is the seller a dealer or a private party. If a dealer, you may have a cause of action that includes consumer fraud and that may permit you to recover any attorney fees. My firm handles matters of this type. If I can be of further help to you, call or email. See also: http://info.corbettlaw.net/lawguru.htm
