Legal Question in Consumer Law in New Jersey

Am I out of luck?!

I recently purchased a used vehicle from a dealer. The car was purchased ''as-is.'' However less than a week later I have already gone through nine bottles of oil and I am afraid there could be some very serious problems with the engine. I have read the general lemon laws for New Jersey and I do not think that I am covered because the vehicle may be too old or have too many miles. I know that some states do not allow ''as-is'' sales of used vehicles and I read that New Jersey is one of those states. Is this correct? Is there anything at all that I can do? I am a college student so as usual I am broke and cannot afford to hire a lawyer or make massive repairs to the car, is there any steps that I can make on my own?

Re: Am I out of luck?!

It depends. You need to have all of your paperwork reviewed asap by an attorney experienced with the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act. There are laws under the Act that apply to used car sales, such as the Used Car Lemon Law. It depends on your particular facts though and that is why you need an attorney to review it now.
