Corporate Card Liability/Collection rights?

Collection Agency Credit Card Debt Credit Report Debt Collection

was laid off from my company and had corporate card debt when I left. The company is now threatening to report the debt to the collection bureaus. The company has already paid Amex but wants money back from me. There is a little bit of it that would not be reimbursable business expenses so I plan to pay them for those charges. However, what rights do they have to report this to the credit bureaus as I was simply an authorized user? I do not believe my former employer has an account with the credit bureaus but they have since hired a collection firm that does. I plan to pay back the legitimate expenses I owe them, however it will take some time. And I did not sign anything that made me legally liable for the card. How do I keep this from getting to the credit bureaus while I pay it off?

You probably do have an agreement with AMEX to be personally responsible for the use of the card but AMEX is not now the claimant. Have you accounted for the business expenses?
