Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

I live in NJ and have a past customer who has owed me $6000.00 for approximately 3 years. She stated she was waiting for an inheritence to go through so she could pay me (I don't know the status of this inheritence). I have 3 years of emails promising me payment. Several months ago she stated she lost her job so she couldn't pay me but I found out she is free lancing on the side. Where do I stand legally?

Her conduct supports the view that she does hot intend to pay. You may be better off reducing the debt to a judgment by going to court. If you win, you have twenty years to collect by any legal means and you will not have to concern yourself with a six-year statute of limitations.
