Re: Are benefits lost

If a person is incarcerated then his SSI benefits stop while he is in prison. Once he gets out he can apply to get them restarted. As to his pension, you need to tell me what kind of pension he is getting. If it is a private pension from some company that he worked for in the past, then most likely he will not lose these benefits even when he is in prison. Same for Veteran's Retirement Pensions based on twenty years or more of prior military service. However, if it is a Veteran's Disability Pension for an injury suffered while on active duty, then I think that this will stop during his period of incarceration, but you would have to check with the VA to confirm this if this is the kind of pension you are talking about.
