Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Caught shoplifting for a 2nd time with a criminal background for other charges. Was caught at the supermarket yesterday for shoplifting about $385 worth of merchandise. How to dispute the charge if defendant might be suffering from kleptomania?
