Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

NJ Probation Violation and New Charges in PA

My friend violated NJ probation by visiting the state of PA. Will he be charged for felony escape even though he wasn't trying to, he had plans to come back to Halfway House but was arrested before curfew. He also has new felony charge in PA because he has two prior convictions for retail theft in NJ. Was it wise for him to sign unsecure bond or was it better to wait for case to be solved in PA before facing NJ on violation of probation....It seems to me when he is sanction for violation how can he be expected to be released while PA charges pending...or how will he resolve case if he is in jail in NJ serving time? He is now awaiting extradition from PA to NJ.
