Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Question about Tiger Kidnappings

I am not in the situation described

below, and am merely curious about

what would happen.

Let's say there's a person we'll call

person A, who has a close loved one,

person B. Person B could be a spouse,

son, daughter, sibling, or somebody

else person A holds dear.

Let's say a person C kidnaps person

B, and tells person A that Person B

will only be returned alive if Person A

agrees to kill somebody.

If person A winds up being forced to

go through with the murder, is

caught, and it's made clear in the

trial what person C was doing, would

the severity of person A's sentence

change at all?

Re: Question about Tiger Kidnappings

You are talking about murder, an offense of great magnitude in the law and in the minds of the people who run the courts and prosecute defendants. I can not give any assurance that the reason for committing the murder would in any way mitigate the sentence/punished which would be meted out. My advice is call the cops if such a threat is made.
