Are there any pros or cons about whom does the actual filing?

If the divorce is going to be uncontested, it may not matter.

However, it appears that this is a divorce where one of the parties lives in NY and the other in NJ.

If you are filing in either state you must make sure that the other has not already filed for divorce in his/her home state.
