Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Hello,

I feel in the future I would like to separate from my girlfriend who lives with me. I was wondering if I would have to support her financially. I own my house outright and had it before we met.The deed is in my name. I paid the mortgage and all taxes, utilities and upkeep ,she did not. She paid for new railings for the front porch, monthly cable and window treatments (mini blinds) and helped with painting. She has lived in my house for 16 years. I would give her ample time to relocate.

Thank you for your reply,

Jim

She could have a palimony claim against you. You'll have to have a long talk with an attorney to see if she has a good case.

There may be some argument for palimony, but I would need a few more facts before I could properly evaluate the case for you. Please contact me at 732-663-1500 to further discuss this matter.

Thank you.
