Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

She left me broke, with the kids and took off with another man

I've been out of work for the past several years. My wife spent our entire nest egg which could have sustained us indefinitely, on her shopping addiction -- i.e. over a thousand pair of panthose, hundreds of nail polish bottles etc etc,. She makes an Executive salary but now deposits all her pay checks in a private bank account and offers litte support. I live with our two pre teens, alone now. She now lives in the city pursuing a romance with another man.

She offers lip service about rebuilding the marriage and I just dont know. What are my options? What may be a likely outcome? Can I get my ''pound of flesh''?

Your wife has child support and alimony obligations which can be enforced. She is also accountable for some portion of the funds which she has wasted. My telephone number is 800 273 7933 and you can visit my website by clicking on www.garymooreattorneyatlaw.abn1.net/home.asp

It's unlikely that you will get your pound of flesh. It is likely that you will get reasonable child support and pendente lite alimony. In addition, you will have the ability (in the context of litigation) to establish whether or not she improperly utilized marital assets for non-family purposes, and hold her accountable for same. Keep in mind that this advice is based purely on the little bit of information that you have given to me. There certainly may be other factors that would change my opinion. Further, no one can rely on advice from an attorney who has not been retained. Since it appears that you have not retained an attorney, you may want to contact an attorney (either me or someone else) to discuss your matter in more detail. Only then will you be able to rely on the advice. If you call me, [856-546-8010] mention Law Guru and your first one hour consultation will be free. Good luck! Rob Gleaner

Matrimonial law allows you certain rights, and imposes certain obligations on parties. If you have custody of the minor children, you are entitled to child support. Additionaly, from the limited facts presented, you might be entitled to receive alimony to maintain "your lifesytle". This is received by filing an action with the Superior Court of New Jersey, Family Part. I would recommend that you have an attorney provide advice and help with the decision of whether to file, and what to file.
