Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

I've been married for 8 years and just recently found out my husband might have a child since before? He says there was no reason for telling me. What happens if she shows up one day? He should have told me before we got married, how do I explain that to him? Thank you

Sounds more like personal issues than legal issues. If she shows up and files a motion, he will have to respond to it.

Don't you have bigger immediate issues with your husband than a concern "if she shows up"? I would think that most people would consider this to be a major trust issue between husband and wife. The two of you need to be totally and completely open with each other not only about this issue, but also about other major issues. A long talk is in order. You can deal with the "what if's" when and, more importantly, if they occur.

Although I can not comment on the persoanl issues between you and your husband, you should be aware that if he does have a child he may become liable to pay child support. If she should "show up" at any time in the future and there is any possiblity that your husband may not be the father of the child, make sure he requests a paternity test prior to any agreement to pay support for the child. If you or your husband would like to discuss this matter further, please contact me at 732-663-1500.

Thank you.
